Baylor Ranked 21st in U.S. News Best College Values Rankings
WACO, Texas-Baylor University is ranked 21st among national colleges and universities in the U.S. News and World Report 1996 "Best College Values" listing to be included in the Sept. 25 issue of the magazine.
The rankings are based on U.S. News quality ratings of "America's Best Colleges" divided by the average cost of tuition, room and board for the 1995-96 academic year to determine a quality-to-price ratio for each school. Baylor had been ranked in the second tier of national universities in the "America's Best Colleges" ratings, for schools between 51st and 115th in the nation, but rose to 21st when average costs were considered.
Other Texas schools listed among the national universities include the University of Texas at Austin, ranked fourth; Texas A&M University at College Station, ranked fifth; and Rice University, ranked 10th.
U.S. News also computed college value rankings based on discounted tuition, which included not only average costs but also average amounts of need-based grants and other awards given to students. In the discounted "Best College Values" list, Baylor was ranked 33rd.
The college value ratings also contain a listing of the most efficient national universities based on high academic quality in relation to the amount spent per student on educational programs.
In the listing of "Most Efficient Schools," Baylor was ranked sixth.
