Baylor Receives $10,000 Gift From Mccall Family

WACO, Texas -- Baylor University recently received a $10,000 gift from the estate of former university president Abner V. McCall, who died June 11.
McCall left the university $10,000 in the form of a life insurance policy, which was presented to Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. by Dr. James Cole, former executive vice president of the Baylor Alumni Association.
With the gift, the university will create the Abner V. and Mary McCall Endowment, which will be a part of the general scholarship fund.
McCall served as president of Baylor from 1961-1981 after a tenure as Texas Supreme Court Justice and dean of the Baylor School of Law. He was the 10th president of Baylor.
The check presentation ceremony was attended by McCall's widow, Mary, and former directors of Benefactors Life Insurance Co., the company from which McCall had purchased the policy. Benefactors Life was created by Baylor alumni to foster such gift giving, according to Cole.
