Baylor Artist-in-Residence Receives Award

WACO, Texas-Karl Umlauf, Baylor University's Artist-in-Residence, recently won a major award at the Arkansas Art Center's 23rd Annual Prints, Drawings, and Photographs National Exhibition.
Umlauf's entry was a charcoal on paper drawing titled "Crucible III" 94. Umlauf described his entry as "a drawing of an industrial valve moving away from the literal emphasis and into an abstract profile."
Umlauf also will exhibit several of his drawings at a national invitational drawing and print exhibition at the Frogman's Press and Gallery in Beresford, S.D.
The University of Texas at Tyler also will host a solo exhibition of Umlauf's new paintings and drawings Aug. 28 to Sept. 22. More than 20 pieces will be exhibited in the university's gallery, including 16-20 ft. drawings. Umlauf used the media of steel, cement and acrylic paint for these pieces.
