The annual Battle of the Bands, sponsored by Kappa Delta and the Office of Campus Programs, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in the field behind the Baylor Sciences Building on the Baylor campus.

Six bands will compete at the free event, which is open to the public. The first place winner will receive $500, $250 for second place and $100 for third place.

In conjunction with Battle of the Bands, Delta Delta Delta will hold its third annual Kicks for Kids kickball tournament at 4 p.m., benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, based in Memphis, Tenn., is America's second-largest health-care charity. The organization seeks to find cures for children with cancer and other diseases through research and treatment. About 5,400 patients are seen at St. Jude yearly.

"We hope to raise $3,000 for St. Jude through our businesses sponsorships and T-shirt sales and an additional $15,000 through the 500 letters that will be sent out to St. Jude from our participants," said Laura Walters, Chair of Kicks for Kids.

Students who are not in the kickball tournament can show their support by buying Battle of the Bands shirts in the Student Union Building or at the Battle of the Bands. Jamba Juice will sell smoothies for $3. Those proceeds, as well as the kick ball tournament entry fees will go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Walters said.

Attendees will be treated to free food and drink while listening to the music of Awaited Return, Blindfolded Robbery, Las Playas, Stanford, Trophy Room and The Changing of Times.
