Baylor University is one of only 44 public and private colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain - and the only Texas Big 12 institution - named a "Best Buy" in the 2010 edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges, a best-selling independent source of information for college-bound students and their parents.

The Fiske Guide qualified Baylor as a "Best Buy" based on its ratings of the quality of the university's academic programs in relation to the cost of attendance. Fiske researchers combined the cost data with academic quality and campus lifestyle information about each college and university to determine which institutions offered the best values in higher education.

In February, Baylor also was ranked for the second consecutive year as one of the nation's top 50 "Best Values in Private Colleges and Universities" by Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

"One of the most important decisions a family will help their son or daughter to make is where he or she will attend college. We are pleased that Baylor is being recognized for providing students and families an outstanding value in higher education," said Dr. Reagan M. Ramsower, vice president for finance and administration who oversees enrollment management at Baylor. "Our goal is always to offer students a top quality academic experience, while remaining sensitive to the costs associated with a Baylor education. It is gratifying that our efforts continue to be acknowledged."

Baylor is one of only four Texas universities - all private - to be named to Fiske's "Best Buy" list. Other than Baylor, only one Big 12 institution - Iowa State University - made the list.

A private Christian university and a nationally ranked liberal arts institution, Baylor University is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university with "high research activity." This blends with Baylor's international reputation for educational excellence built upon the faculty's commitment to teaching, scholarship and interdisciplinary research to produce outstanding graduates.

Chartered in 1845 by the Republic of Texas through the efforts of Baptist pioneers, Baylor is the oldest, continually operating university in the state. Baylor's 735-acre campus in Waco, Texas, is home to more than 14,000 students from all 50 states and 80 countries. Baylor's nationally recognized academic divisions offer 146 baccalaureate, 76 master, a juris doctor and 28 doctoral degree programs, through its 11 academic units.

The mission of Baylor University is to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring community.
