Baylor University will host its annual Parents Weekend Aug. 12-13. A Baylor tradition since 1960, parents will have the opportunity to spend time with their children and become familiar with the ways of the Baylor family.
The two-day event will feature several events designed to give parents a chance to be part of the "Baylor experience". Events scheduled for the weekend include a talent show, live concert performances, and opportunities to get to know professors and other members of the Baylor community.
Friday's events begin at 3 p.m. with Open Bear Pit, a time for students and parents to meet and be photographed with Baylor's mascots, and Baylor in Focus, a casual gathering where parents can meet and interact with representatives from the athletic, academic, and student involvement departments. Baylor History, a story about the university and why students and alumni are proud of their alma mater, begins at 5 p.m. After Dark, an annual student talent show, will have two performances on Friday at 7 and 10 p.m. Also, the Baylor School of Music will present a concert on Friday at 8 p.m. featuring Wayne Watson, a contemporary Christian musician whose has won over four gospel music awards.
A parent/faculty coffee is scheduled for Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Parents will be able to meet with professors and administrators on an individual basis. Dinner on the Grounds, a picnic style meal, begins at 11:30 a.m. and includes a keynote address by President Robert B. Sloan Jr. at 12:15 p.m. Parents Weekend events conclude with the Baylor Bears football game against Southern Methodist University at 6:00 p.m.
