Statement From Dave Bliss

July 2, 2003

Baylor University head men's basketball coach Dave Bliss released the following statement to the media today (July 2), regarding the search for missing Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy:

"I would like to address some of the questions that have arisen regarding Pat Dennehy and our contact with him. All this information has been provided to law enforcement authorities.
"I want to emphasize that the police department has stated that none of our current team members are suspects in this case. Our players are anxious about Patrick's safe return, and they are eager to assist in any way needed by the authorities.
"As a coaching staff, we are always in regular communication with our players. Members of my staff met and had frequent contact with Patrick in the days leading up to his disappearance. At no time, did Patrick say anything about safety concerns or personal threats.
"Regarding the issue of guns, we don't allow them. As a team, to start every year, we review the student disciplinary policy and each player agrees to abide by those policies. No member of our staff had any idea about a gun purchase until police notified us last week.
"Our thoughts and prayers for Patrick continue to be with his family and loved ones."
