W.C. Dobbs Endowed Lecturer to Discuss 'Kingdom Citizens in a New Empire'

Baylor University's George W. Truett Seminary will present the 2008 W.C. Dobbs Endowed Lecture by Dr. Gregory A. Boyd, senior pastor of the Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minn., at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the seminary's Paul W. Powell Chapel. Boyd will speak on "Kingdom Citizens in a New Empire."

Boyd is a former atheist who committed his life to Christ in 1974. He is now an internationally recognized theologian and skilled apologist. A graduate of Yale Divinity School and Princeton Theological Seminary, Boyd has authored and coauthored 18 books, including the best selling and award winning Letters From a Skeptic and The Myth of a Christian Nation. Boyd has also been featured on the front page of The New York Times, "The Charlie Rose Show," CNN, National Public Radio and the BBC.

On Wednesday, Boyd will discuss his Myth of a Christian Nation book that was created out a series of sermons that resulted in the loss of 20 percent of Boyd's congregation.

"It will be a hard-hitting critique of Christian Americanism - a belief that that God favors America and that we, as Christians, should be pro-America," said Dr. Roger Olson, professor of theology at Truett Seminary. "He doesn't condemn patriotism, just nationalism."

The W.C. Dobbs Endowed Lectureship was established in 1995 by Dr. W.C. Dobbs, a retired professor of Christian ethics at Mobile College of Mobile, Ala.
