Classics Professor Receives Award For Excellence

The American Philological Association (APA) recently honored Baylor University professor Dr. R. Alden Smith with the Award for Excellence in Teaching of Classics at the association's annual meeting in New Orleans, La. Smith, associate professor and chair of the department of classics, was awarded a plaque and citation compiled of testimonials from colleagues, students, deans and others as an outstanding teacher and mentor.
Annually, three professors are recognized by their peers for excellence in teaching classics at the undergraduate level, the classical subject matter they present and their willingness to design and implement new courses and programs at their respective institutions.
Smith has taught classics for more than 20 years and is currently the director of the Baylor In Italy summer program and also serves as director of the Baylor University Scholars program.
