ROTC To Hold Veterans Day Flag Vigil Nov. 11

November 7, 2002

Baylor University's Air Force ROTC cadets will hold a 24-hour flag vigil beginning at noon Monday, Nov. 11, at the flag pole in front of Pat Neff Hall. The vigil is held annually in conjunction with Veterans Day.
During the flag vigil, teams of four cadets will guard the flag during hour-long shifts. The vigil will end at noon Tuesday. Additionally, members of the Silver Wings Society, a support organization for ROTC, will hold a bake sale Monday at the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Money raised from the sale will be used to purchase wreathes that will be placed at the university's memorial light poles. The poles originally were erected to honor Baylor students and alumni who lost their lives during World War II, and each pole is inscribed with the name of a fallen service member. The university's cadets plan to place a wreath at the light pole on the anniversary of the veteran's death.
Baylor's Air Force ROTC unit, now in its 54th year, currently has more than 170 cadets. The department of aerospace studies is under the command of Lt. Col. Jeffrey B. Bowles.
