Balloon Glow and Concert Returns Sept. 16

Sept. 14, 2006

After Hurricane Rita's approaching winds canceled last year's event, the sixth annual Balloon Glow and Concert returns at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, to Baylor University's Floyd Casey Stadium.

The free event is a "unique experience that people don't get to see at a normal concert," said Amy Reeves, assistant director of student activities for campus programming. Curves International, The Place2BU and KKLM 88.7 K-Love sponsor Balloon Glow.

Christian band Big Daddy Weave will perform at 7:30 p.m., followed by 20 minutes of hot-air balloon animation, choreographed to music. Baylor student Denise Hearn will sing the National Anthem for the concert, Reeves said.

The Balloon Glow concert is coordinated with the Curves International Balloon Classic - a hot air balloon race - on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, Reeves said. About 30 balloonists have registered to compete for $30,000 in prize money.

After Glow, a party after the concert, will be held from 10 p.m. to midnight at the Mayborn Museum Complex. Students are encouraged to attend and will receive free food provided by Shipley's Donuts and Super Suppers. Students also will have the opportunity to tour the museum and visit the gift store.

Parking at Floyd Casey Stadium is open to the public. The east side gates and gate 12 on the west side will open at 5:30 p.m. Concessions will be available on the west side, according to the Baylor Bear Foundation.

A shuttle service will be provided in front of the Bill Daniel Student Center. The service will start at 5:15 p.m., and will run every 10 minutes until 11 p.m.
