Annual Exhibit to Feature Student, Faculty Art Work

March 21, 2006

The Annual Art Student and Studio Faculty exhibitions will be featured in the Martin Museum of Art on the campus of Baylor University beginning March 31. The student exhibition will run through April 20, and the faculty show will run through April 29, although both exhibits will close April 14-17 for the Easter holiday.
Student awards will be presented at an opening reception for the exhibitions on Thursday, March 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Greg Reuter, professor of art from Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi, will be this year's juror for the competitive Art Student Exhibition and will speak at the opening reception. Approximately 75 pieces of artwork will be chosen from the expected 200 or so entries.
"Whether a student's work is accepted or not, we hope they will see the jury process as a valuable experience that is an important part of their education," said Karin Gilliam, director of the museum.
"The art students also benefit from seeing the most recent artwork created by their studio professors," Gilliam said. "The faculty exhibition is a wonderful environment
for personal dialogue. The students always come away with additional insight and respect for their professors."
There is no charge for admission to the exhibits.
The Martin Museum of Art is located in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 12 to 5p.m. on Saturday.
