2006 Baylor/Waco Piano Competition To Be Held Feb. 4

Jan. 25, 2006

This year's Baylor/Waco Piano Competition will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, on the Baylor University campus.

The Baylor/Waco Piano Competition, sponsored by the Baylor School of Music, is now in its 27th year. It provides an annual opportunity for talented young pianists in the five-state area to gain valuable experience and recognition. There are also cash prizes awarded to the top two winners in each of the five divisions.

This year's event will feature 42 contestants, grades seven through 12, who will represent the piano studios of 32 independent teachers from throughout Texas and Oklahoma.

The Baylor/Waco Piano Competition is comprised of two main categories--the Piano Solo Competition and the Piano Concerto Competition--and each of those categories consists of various divisions, depending upon the age of the contestant.

Winners in every division will be announced at an awards presentation ceremony that begins at 1:15 p.m. in Meadows Recital Hall.

All Baylor/Waco Piano Competition activities are free of charge and open to the public. Competition venues include Jones Concert Hall and Meadows Recital Hall (in the Glennis McCrary Music Building), and Roxy Grove Hall (in the Waco Hall complex).
