Funeral Services Held For Longtime Benefactor Patsy Hollandsworth
Longtime Baylor benefactor Patsy Hollandsworth of Longview died Saturday, Nov. 24. Her funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Ford Chapel at First Baptist Church, Longview, with the Rev. Dewayne Beaty, Dr. W J Wimpee and Dr. Harry Lucenay officiating. Burial followed in Memory Park Cemetery.
Over the years, Hollandsworth and her late husband, Earl, gave almost $18 million to Baylor to fund scholarships, qualifying the couple as the largest single contributors in the university's 156-year history. Thousands of Baylor students have benefited from the Hollandsworths' philanthropy, which earned them many honors including the Texas Baptist Development Officers Association's Outstanding Philanthropist Award in 1983. They also were recipients of Baylor's Huckins, Neff and Presidents Medallions. Mrs. Hollandsworth received the Baylor Founders Medal in 1996 and was a charter member of the university's Old Main Society.
"Earl and Patsy Hollandsworth were very dear and faithful friends of Baylor University," said Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. "The impact of their generosity has been profound, and they leave a legacy that will endure for generations to come, not only at Baylor but at a number of other Texas Baptist institutions."
Mrs. Hollandsworth was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, on Oct. 26, 1983.
