The following message was released today by Byron S. Weathersbee, interim university chaplain at Baylor:

On Sunday, Oct. 30, University Baptist Church Pastor Kyle Lake was involved in an accident during a baptism and was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital. Kyle passed away around 11:30 a.m.

The Baylor family is deeply grieved by Kyle's death. Not only have we lost a local pastor to students, but also a friend and visionary voice.

Kyle Lake earned a BA in speech communications/religion in 1994 from Baylor and his master of divinity degree in 1997 from Truett Seminary. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, also a Baylor graduate, and three children.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Wilkerson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd.

A viewing will be held at noon Tuesday, Nov. 1, at First Baptist Church, Waco, located at Fifth and Clay in downtown Waco. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Local pastors, University Ministries and the Baylor Counseling Center are joining together to help provide support to UBC leadership and students in this time of crisis.

We are confident that Kyle is in heaven today because of his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior.

"And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." - 1 John 5:11-13

The family would like donations in lieu of flowers to be sent to University Baptist Church, the church that Kyle pastored and loved. You may send this to 1701 Dutton Avenue, Waco, TX 76706.

Please continue to keep the Lake family and the UBC community in your prayers.
