Santa to Pay Visit to Preschoolers at Baylor

November 30, 1999

The seventh annual Santa's Workshop will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Baylor University in Marrs McLean Gymnasium. This year about 600 children are expected to attend. The Baylor office of student activities, Baylor Staff Council and ARAMARK will sponsor the event.
The workshop is designed for Waco-area children ages 3-5 and promotes interaction between the Baylor and Waco communities. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance, and there will be food and gifts for everyone.
"This is a great way for Baylor faculty, staff and students to demonstrate our commitment to the community," said Melissa Prihoda, community service coordinator in the student activities office.
"It's one of the most rewarding things we do each year, because we can see the immediate impact on these children," Prihoda said.
ARAMARK will donate lunch for the workshop, and gift donations have been accepted from across the campus. Student activities also is accepting monetary donations, which will be used to buy presents so that each child may receive a gift.
After singing, eating and receiving presents, each child will leave with a goodie bag and a lot of holiday cheer.
More than 300 campus volunteers participated in collecting and wrapping gifts, decorating, and hosting the children at the event, Prihoda said. Hundreds more from across campus also participated by donating gifts or money
