"A Place 2BU" Weekend Events Begin Aug. 25

Baylor students who have searched for something to do on the weekends now have "A Place 2BU" right on campus.
The collaborative effort to provide a variety of events for Baylor students primarily on the weekends begins Saturday, Aug. 25, with "Late Night at the SLC" at the McLane Student Life Center. Students can watch the "dive-in" movie "Tommy Boy" in or around the SLC pool, then join Baylor coaches and players in a "Get Gold and Get Loud" rally. There also will be food, music, gold rush t-shirts, volleyball and basketball tournaments, a coffee shop and a showcase of student organizations.
According to Dr. Eileen Hulme, acting vice president for student life, the idea of having these weekend events came from surveys given to Baylor students.
"We decided to try this in response to listening to student's suggestions," Hulme said. "If it goes well, then we'll try it again."
A committee comprised of different areas of campus involvement decided upon the weekend events. Those areas are Campus Life, Student Activities, Student Involvement, Baptist Student Ministries, the athletic department, Baylor DPS and the new Baylor Shock Troop, a student organization that supports Baylor athletic teams.
Hulme added that the purpose of the weekend events is not only to get the individual students involved but student organizations as well. The division of student life will be co-sponsoring future events with the various organizations on campus to help get their names out, as well as increase student participation.
