Baylor to Confer Degrees on Summer Graduates
Baylor University will confer degrees on more than 500 graduates during summer commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Ferrell Center on the Baylor campus.
Baylor's Interim President William D. Underwood will give the traditional commencement charge to the graduates. John Wilkerson, a member of Baylor's Board of Regents, will bring greetings to the graduates. Dr. C.W. Christian, professor emeritus of religion, will act as bearer of the mace. Additionally, the Baylor Alumni Association will present the Abner V. McCall Humanitarian Award to Tyler residents Dr. C.R. "Dick" Hurst and Jesmarie Harvey Hurst.
Following the ceremony, the Baylor Alumni Association will hold its traditional graduation celebration under the tent outside the Ferrell Center. Graduates can visit with professors and join the Alumni Association at a special rate.
Baylor will hold several activities Friday night for graduates and their families. Doctoral students, their spouses, department chairs and mentors are invited to a dinner hosted by the Graduate School at 7 p.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center. Reservations are required.
From 8:30 to 9 p.m., as graduates and their families gather for the annual "Split" party, they will be serenaded by the bells of the McLane Carillon, located in the tower of Pat Neff Hall. Ice cream will be served at no cost beginning at 9 p.m. on the first floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
