Baylor To Play Host To State Little League Tournaments

During the next two weekends, Little Leaguers from around the state will travel to Waco to participate in this year's state Little League tournaments.
From July 21-24, players ages 17-18 will compete for the state title. The Baylor Ballpark will host the boys' baseball tournament and Getterman Stadium will host the girls' softball tournament. Games begin Saturday evening at 6 p.m. and will go through Tuesday, when the championship games for baseball and softball will be played at 10 a.m.
From July 27-31, four divisions of Little League baseball and softball will vie for state championships. Athletes ages 9-16 will participate in tournament play at Baylor's facilities as wells as the newly constructed Texas State Little League Complex at 3700 S. University Parks Dr.
The weekend will open with a banquet at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 27, with 1,700 players, parents, umpires and tournament officials expected to attend the festivities at the Waco Convention Center. Steve Fallon of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame will be the banquet's master of ceremonies, and speakers will include Waco mayor Linda Ethridge, Steve Smith of the Waco Chamber of Commerce and Texas State Director of Little League Baseball Mike Witherwax.
Games during both weekends of competition will be open to the public. Admission to games involving players ages 12 and under is free. Fans may purchase tournament passes, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students. Day-long passes are also available for $3 for adults and $1.50 for students. There is an additional $1 charge for parking at the tournaments.
