Jaclanel McFarland Elected To Baylor Board Of Regents

HOUSTON -- Houston attorney Jaclanel Moore McFarland was elected to the Baylor University board of regents during the governing body's summer meeting today in Houston.
McFarland, who previously served on the board from 1991 to 2000, was elected to fill the unexpired term of Paul W. Powell, who resigned from the board last February after being appointed dean of Baylor's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
McFarland earned a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor in 1974 and a juris doctor degree from Baylor's School of Law in 1977. She also did graduate work in comparative constitutional law at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. Licensed to practice law in Texas in 1977, McFarland also was licensed to practice in U.S. District Courts, Southern District of Texas, in 1979. A member of the State Bar of Texas, she also is a member of the Houston Bar Association and has been a participant in several comparative international law institutes.
She has been recognized in Foremost Women of the 20th Century and in Who's Who in the World, in American Law, of American Women, in the South and Southwest, Among Rising Young Americans, and in the World of Women.
McFarland is a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association and Baylor law alumni. She is a member of the Baylor Bear Foundation and a founding member of the Baylor Women's Association of Houston.
McFarland is a member of South Main Baptist Church in Houston. She formerly served as first vice president and sat on the executive board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. McFarland is a member of the Executive Committee of Texas Baptists Committed.
She is married to attorney A. Keith McFarland, also a Baylor graduate, and they are law partners. They also serve on the Baylor Council for Institutional Development. They have two sons, Allen and Linch.
The Baylor board, which typically holds its annual summer retreat and meeting outside of Waco, was hosted by regent vice chairman Drayton McLane Jr. at the Enron Field Conference Center. McLane, a 1958 Baylor graduate, is chairman of the Houston Astros Baseball Club and the McLane Group, L.P.
