Baylor Accounting Grads Excel On CPA Exam

Accounting graduates of Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business continue to make their mark on the CPA (certified public accountant) examination.
Dr. Elizabeth B. Davis, associate professor and acting chair of the department of accounting and business law, said the results of the latest exam administered in Texas in November 2000 show Baylor graduates recorded the highest success rate among the 19 Texas schools with 10 or more first-time candidates sitting for all four parts of the exam.
The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy reported that Baylor had 13 of 34 candidates pass all four parts of the exam, giving Baylor a pass rate of 38.2 percent, compared with 32.6 percent for the University of Texas at Austin (15 of 46 passing all parts) and 18.3 percent for Texas A&M University at College Station (11 of 60 passing all parts).
The board noted that, overall, 18.81 percent of first-time candidates from a total of 62 Texas colleges and universities passed all parts of the examination (123 of 654 candidates were successful).
Baylor's accounting program has enjoyed a solid reputation for excellence over many years and its graduates consistently place among the highest in scores and pass rates on the CPA exam. Numerous Baylor accounting graduates have risen to the top ranks of the international accounting and consulting firms and private industry.
Davis said the strength of Baylor's accounting curriculum, the dedication of the accounting faculty and the abilities of the students are all critical components of the accounting program.
