Pianist Krassimira Jordan In Faculty Recital March 27 At Baylor

Krassimira Jordan, professor of piano and Artist-in-Residence at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m Tuesday, March 27, in Roxy Grove Hall. Her program will include music by Ludwig van Beethoven, Claude Debussy, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Franz Liszt.
Jordan has established an international reputation as a concert pianist and recording artist. A native of Bulgaria, she studied in Sofia, Vienna and Moscow, where she was a pupil of Stanislav Neuhaus and Emil Gilels. During her years of study, she received the International Piano Competitions "Alfredo Casella" and "Alessandro Casagrande," as well as the Mozart "Clara Haskil" awards. As a representative of Austria, Jordan was the Gold Medal winner at the 1981 Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition.
A professor of piano for 10 years at the Vienna Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, she made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1989. She joined the Baylor School of Music faculty that same year.
Her recital will open with the famous "Moonlight" Sonata by Beethoven, which will be followed by five pieces by Debussy--his "Rêverie," three études and "L'isle joyeuse."
After intermission, Jordan will play three preludes by Rachmaninoff and then Liszt's "Variations on J. S. Bach's 'Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen.'" The latter is based on a theme from Bach's Cantata No. 12.
