Political Science Department Establishes Stormie Schott Award

Baylor University's department of political science has established the Stormie Lynn Schott Outstanding Graduate Student Award in honor of Stormie Schott, who died March 11 from injuries received in an automobile accident. The award, which will be presented for the first time this spring at the department's annual awards program, will go to the graduate student in political science who best exemplifies the qualities that Schott embodied as a student and a person.
"I cannot recall another student in all my years who had such an impact on so many of her professors and fellow students," said Dr. James Curry, chair of political science and the Bob Bullock Professor of Public Policy and Administration. "Whether she was working in the department, sitting in the classroom or visiting in the hallway, Stormie was a perfect role model for those around her, and I include faculty in that group. Those of us who were fortunate to have her as a student or an intern will never forget her intelligence, her commitment to others and her relentless energy."
Schott earned her bachelor's degree from Baylor in 1999 and was pursuing a master's degree in international studies. She participated in the university's award-winning Model United Nations team, the Washington, D.C., internship program and Baylor in Turkey. She also was active in First Baptist Church of Woodway.
