BGCT Executive Director To Lead Bible Conference Oct. 13-14

Baylor University will host the 19th annual Baylor Bible Conference, co-sponsored by the department of religion and the Waco Baptist Association, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 13-14. Dr. Charles R. Wade, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will serve as guest preacher for the conference and will lead one Bible study session.
A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wade served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Arlington from 1976 to 1999. Additionally, he has been a member of the BGCT State Missions Commission and a trustee of Dallas Baptist University and the Hispanic Baptist Theological School. He was twice named Minister of the Year in Arlington and Newsmaker of the Year in 1999 by the Arlington Daily News. He is the co-author, with Lee and Carol Bowman, of "The Jesus Principle: Building Churches in the Likeness of Christ."
Baylor religion faculty members Dr. Sharyn Dowd, Dr. John Jonsson and Dr. Charles Talbert will lead this year's Bible study session, which will focus on the book of James. Ed Wittner, former minister of music at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, will be the music leader for the worship services for the conference.
Spouses of participants may attend a special conference held during the Bible study sessions. This year's theme is "Keeping Your Balance," and will be led by Marcie Hatfield, wife of Dr. Stephen Hatfield, pastor of First Baptist Church of Lewisville. The spouses conference is sponsored by the Ministers Counseling Services of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
The Bible conference will be held in Miller Chapel of the Tidwell Bible Building. The spouses conference will meet in the adjacent Bobo Baptist Student Center. There is no charge to attend the conference, which includes lunch and dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday. Participants also will receive complimentary tickets to the Baylor vs. Texas A&M football game.
