John Blakeman To Speak On Rule In Northern Ireland Oct. 12

Dr. John Blakeman, assistant professor of political science, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Cowden Room on the third floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center, as part of the Council for International Education's "The Current Issues Series."
Blakeman's lecture on "Home Rule in Northern Ireland" will focus on the political policies in Northern Ireland.
"I will discuss the most current attempts to bring peace and stability to Northern Ireland, as well as the creation of a new framework of government for Northern Ireland in 1998 and how that framework has worked in practice," said Blakeman.
A special foreign film series also is being held in conjunction with the lecture series. The next film to be show in is "Il Postino" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center. Both the film and lecture are free and open to the public.
