Baylor Bookstore To Host Cartoonists Across America Event Nov. 10

November 7, 2000

The Baylor University Bookstore will host "Building a Nation of Readers, Artists and Dreamers Day," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10. The event will benefit A Storybook Christmas, Cartoonists Across America and the Children's Miracle Network.
During the event, local children will paint large murals with professional artists from the Cartoonists Across America group, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy, creativity and diversity. Phil Yeh, president and founder of the organization, also will talk with children about the importance of literacy and the arts. Additionally, local celebrities, including former Baylor football coach Grant Teaff, former Baylor and Pittsburgh Steeler player Walter Abercrombie and KWTX weatherman Rusty Garrett, will read stories to children.
Other activities include puppet shows and a performance by ventriloquist Mark McClintock. Storybook Christmas, which provides new books to needy children in the McLennan County area, will be on hand to accept donations of books. Storybooks also will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be provided.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by CEFCO Convenience Stores, Waco-McLennan County Library, City of Waco, Baylor School of Education and the Baylor Libraries. The Baylor Bookstore is located at 1201 S. 5th St. across Waco Creek from the Bear Pit on the Baylor campus.
