All-University Sing Competition To Begin Feb. 16

January 26, 2001

Baylor University will hold the 48th annual All-University Sing, a student musical production, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16-17, and Feb. 23-24, in Waco Hall. Although all four performances are sold out, tickets for the dress rehearsal at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, are available for $5.
This year's performance will feature 20 student groups, each performing their own original act. A national panel of judges, with equal representation from theater, dance, music and student work backgrounds, will review the acts. The last three performances of each act will be judged on entertainment value, musical quality, creativity, choreography and theme development. The winners will be announced at the end of the last night of performances.
The judges will recognize the top three acts with first, second and third place awards, and the top eight acts will perform at Baylor's annual Pigskin Revue during Homecoming week next fall. Each of the top eight acts will receive $1,000 to cover expenses needed to prepare for Pigskin Revue. The first-place winner will be added to a trophy inscribed with the names of the winners from 1953 to the present. The trophy is on display in the student activities office of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
The People's Choice awards, created for the 1999 performance, will again be included in this year's awards ceremony. The award is based on the audience's votes on best backdrop, best music selection, best theme development and best costumes. An opportunity to vote for these awards on-line will be set-up prior to the first performance.
Entertainment between each act will be provided by 'The Segues,' a student-managed comedy team, and Third Coast, a popular jazz band.
