William Baker To Speak On The Arab Perspective Of Palestinian Conflict

February 20, 2001

Professor William Baker, lecturer in Arabic and Middle Eastern studies at Baylor University, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in room 116 of Draper Academic Building, as part of the Council for International Education's "The Global Issues Lecture Series."
His speech, "The Friend of My Enemy is My Enemy: An Arab Perspective on the Palestinian Conflict," is a follow-up lecture to Dr. Lynn Tatum's talk last Thursday. Baker will focus on Arabic history and the background information necessary to understand their claim on the same land as the Jews. Baker said that he hopes students will come away with a better understanding of the two positions on the Arab/Israeli conflicts, with both sides being neither completely right or completely wrong.
A special foreign film series also is being held in conjunction with the lecture series. The film, "Acqua Sapone," will be shown at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center. The film and lecture are free and open to the public.
For more information on the lecture series, contact Dr. Christopher Marsh, assistant professor of political science, at 710-6058, or visit the website https://www.baylor.edu/~Chris_Marsh/Issues.htm .
