April 5, 2000

Dr. Christopher Marsh, assistant professor of political science and associate director of Slavic and East European studies, will speak at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Cowden Room on the third floor of the Bill Daniel Student Center, as part of the Council for International Education's lecture series, "The Current Issues Series."
In his lecture titled "Who Will Be Russia's Next President?" he will discuss the electoral turnout and regional disparities. Those problems include ethnicity and subjects concerning Islam.
"The new president [Vladimir Putin] is the first person to become a president of Russia who was not a leader during the Soviet Period," said Marsh. Putin will be inaugurated May 7.
