Village Visitors Can Celebrate An Old-Fashioned Christmas Dec. 2

November 30, 1999

The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village at Baylor University will host "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. An affair for the entire family, the event will feature decorations, crafts, music and holiday drinks.
Children can learn to make Christmas decorations and visit with Santa at the school, while adults shop for gifts in the general store. Visitors also can sample Gossip, a popular 19th-century drink. The Victorian beverage gets its name from the hot roasted apples that are floated in chilled apple cider. The apples emit a hissing steam as they bump around the bowl like "gossiping women."
Other hot drinks will be for sale in the saloon and carolers will perform throughout the evening.
Admission to "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" is $3 for adults, $2 for senior citizens and $1 for children over age six. Baylor faculty, staff and students are admitted free with an I.D. card.
