National Merit Scholars to Visit Baylor

November 18, 1999

Baylor University will host its annual Invitation to Leadership weekend Nov. 19 and 20 for National Merit Scholar semi-finalists.
The event will expose the high school seniors from Texas and 10 other states to Baylor's special programs, such as the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core, the University Scholars program, the Honors program and the Study Abroad program. Approximately 75 students and their parents are expected to attend.
The weekend begins with dinner Friday evening in the Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Dr. Stan Madden, vice president for university relations, will be the featured speaker, along with Jim Marshall, a senior National Merit Scholar.
Following dinner and a dessert reception, small groups will meet with professors in various fields of interest.
Saturday morning begins with an admissions and financial aid lecture at 8 a.m., followed by two special interest sessions about Baylor's academic programs. Guests will then have the opportunity to take a tour of the campus led by members of Student Foundation.
The weekend concludes with the Bears' football game against Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium.
Invitation to Leadership is sponsored by the Baylor office of admission services and Mortarboard.
