Baylor Theatre to Present Acclaimed Musical Sept. 24

September 17, 1999

Baylor Theatre will present the Tony and Pulitzer prize-winning musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in Jones Theater of the Hooper Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus. The musical also will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 25 and Sept. 28 through Oct. 2 with a matinee scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Oct. 3.
"It is such a fun musical," said Dr. Stan Denman, professor of theater arts and director of the Baylor production. "It is very light but it makes you think. I expect a sell out, so people should buy their tickets early."
Originally produced in 1961 and written by Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser, the musical follows the career of J. Pierrepont Finch as he moves from an entry level position to head of the World Wide Wicket company. How to Succeed in Business satirizes the business world by tackling "yes men" and sexism in the workplace among other issues.
The part of J. Pierrepont Finch will be performed by Michael Turner, a senior from Plano. Amber Evans, a junior from Plano, will take the role of Rosemary Pilkington, the love interest in the musical.
Tickets for the musical are $12 and can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Theater Box Office in the Hooper Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
