Jazz Ensemble II Plays on February 25

Baylor University's Jazz Ensemble II will present a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Jones Concert Hall. The Baylor Jazz Combo also will be featured. Both groups perform under the direction of Benjamin Irom, lecturer in jazz studies.
Jazz Ensemble II will open the concert with Bob Curnow's "Badger Blues," Sammy Nestico's "The Spirit Is Willing" and the Mike Tomaro arrangement of Dizzy Gillespie's "Manteca."
The six-member Baylor Jazz Combo will come on stage to perform their own arrangements of "Oleo" by Sonny Rollins, "Nostalgia in Times Square" by Charles Mingus, "Stella by Starlight" by Victor Young and "All Blues" by Miles Davis.
The 18-member Jazz Ensemble II will return following intermission to play Sammy Nestico's "The Queen Bee," Bob Curnow's "Passacaglia" and the Bill Holman arrangement of "Stompin' at the Savoy" by Chick Webb and Benny Goodman.
Concluding the program will be Bob Mintzer's "Spirits" and an arrangement by Pete Lengyel of Wolf & Landesman's "Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most."
