November 12, 1998

The Baylor University Mortar Board and the office of admission services will host an Invitation to Leadership Friday and Saturday. The invitation was extended to all high school senior National Merit semi-finalists who have inquired about Baylor within the last year, and approximately 60 are expected to visit Baylor's campus this weekend.
James Steen, associate director of recruitment in the office of admission services, said that approximately 85 percent of the semi-finalists who will attend the Invitation to Leadership are from Texas. Other students will come from Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, Mississippi, Arizona and Kansas.
The semi-finalists will meet in the Barfield Drawing Room Friday for a banquet from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Dr. Charles S. Madden, vice president for university relations, will deliver the keynote address at 8:10 p.m. A dessert reception will be held on the second and third floors of the Bill Daniel Student Center immediately following the banquet. Academic forums will then be held on the following six colleges and schools-- Arts and Sciences (Sciences), Arts and Sciences (Humanities), School of Business, School of Education, School of Engineering and Computer Science and School of Music.
Semi-finalists will participate in a number of events on the second day beginning with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in room 510 on the fifth floor of the Hankamer School of Business. Events scheduled include special interest sessions, campus tours, and a barbecue picnic in Touchdown Alley before the Baylor vs. Oklahoma football game. The Invitation concludes with all guests attending the game.
