Steppin' Out Services Planned for Halloween

October 29, 1998

Some Baylor University students have committed this year's Halloween to a day of community service. Saturday, Oct. 31, will be Baylor's 25th Steppin' Out. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and last approximately four hours.
Many campus organizations participate in Steppin' Out and complete thousands of hours of community service. This year's Steppin' Out is special because almost 3,000 students have volunteered to participate. Usually around 2,500 students volunteer. This year's number includes 500 freshmen, which is four times more than the usual amount of freshmen who volunteer.
During Steppin' Out, students provide various services to more than 120 places throughout the community. Services that students will provide include painting houses and churches, playing with children, helping the elderly, cleaning up neighborhoods and numerous others.
Students will gather at the Bill Daniel Student Center (SUB) around 8 a.m. to gather tools and enjoy breakfast foods donated by Shipley Do-nuts. Around noon, students will return to the SUB for a celebration of service lunch which will be provided by many local restaurants, such as Outback and Johnny Carino's.
