Baylor Hosts 1998 Parents Weekend Oct. 9-10

Baylor University will present its annual Parents Weekend on Oct. 9-10. Parents will have opportunities to learn about Baylor by touring the campus, meeting faculty and attending events planned by the Baylor Chamber of Commerce.
To kick off the weekend, there will be an Open Bear Pit where visitors can view the Baylor Mascots, Judge Bill "Billy" Boyd and Judge Virginia "Ginny" Crump, at 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Steve Hudson Memorial Bear Plaza.
Dr. Robert G. Packard, professor of physics, and Dr. J. William Petty, professor of finance, insurance and real estate, will speak to parents on what students experience in the classroom at 4 p.m. Friday in the Bill Daniel Student Center.
Robert L. Reid, Professor Emeritus and Master Teacher, will tell the history of Baylor at
5 p.m. Friday in the Barfield Drawing room of the student center.
Student talent will be showcased in the annual talent show "After Dark" at 7 and 10 p.m. Friday in Waco Hall. The evening will also include a dessert party at 9 p.m. in Burleson Quadrangle with entertainment provided by the Ed Burleson band.
Saturday, Oct. 10, will begin with a parent/faculty coffee at 8:30 a.m. at Founder's Mall which will give parents an opportunity to meet with students' professors and administrators.
Dinner on the Grounds will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will give a keynote address about the Baylor family.
The weekend will conclude when the Baylor football team takes on the University of Kansas. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m., but the time may be changed to the early afternoon due to television scheduling. If the time is changed, the Dinner on the Grounds will be held after the game at 5:30 p.m.
