Baylor Christmas/New Year Holidays Openings and Closings

WACO, Texas (Dec. 20, 2022) – Baylor University offices and most facilities will be closed during the Christmas and New Year holidays from Friday, Dec. 23, to Monday, Jan. 2, 2023. The University will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023. The first day of classes for the spring semester will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023.

Below is holiday information about Baylor offices, facilities and public attractions.

Campus Visits

The Wiethorn Undergraduate Admissions Center (Campus Visits) at 55 Baylor Avenue in Waco will be open through Thursday, Dec. 22, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests can walk in or call at 254-710-TOUR (8687) for assistance with campus visits. The center will reopen on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023.

During the holidays, if prospective students and their families would like to take a self-guided walking tour, a “ranger station” is available outside of the Wiethorn Center with information about Baylor, as well as cards for guests to fill in their information. 

Visitors also can discover Baylor University virtually through The College Tour, which featured Baylor as part of season 2 of the Amazon Prime streaming series.

End of Year Giving

The Baylor Office of University Advancement will be open during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 26-30 to process end-of-year gifts made by credit card. Please call 254-710-2561 or 800-229-5678, option 4. End-of-year online giving also is available on the Baylor website.

Bear Foundation offices will be closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, 2023. To contact the Bear Foundation during this holiday period, please email Bear_Foundation@baylor.edu.

Museums

The Mayborn Museum will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Jan. 1, 2023, but otherwise open to the public during its regular hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Current exhibits include DC Super Heroes: Discover Your Superpowers open through Jan. 29, 2023, and the Mayborn Express trains, which run through Jan. 8, 2023.

The Martin Museum of Art in the Hooper-Schafer Fine Arts Center is closed until Jan. 10, 2023. The Martin Museum will reopen with two new exhibits: In the Ring: Goya's La Tauromaquia and Jason Bly: Curriculum for a Better Tomorrow.

University Libraries

Baylor Libraries, including Moody and Jones libraries and Special Collections libraries, will be closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, 2023. Libraries will reopen from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 3, 2023. Please see the Libraries’ calendar for specific opening hours and dates up until the spring semester begins on Jan. 17, 2023.

McLane Student Life Center

The McLane Student Life Center is closed from Dec. 18 to Jan. 8, 2023, reopening on Monday, Jan. 9, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The McLane SLC will return to its full schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Campus Dining

The Food Court in the SUB (Steak N Shake and Chick-fil-A) is closed through Jan. 2, 2023.

Starbucks at Moody Memorial Library is closed and will reopen Jan. 7, 2023.

Residential dining halls are closed during the holidays:

  • 1845 Memorial will reopen Jan. 7, 2023.
  • Penland Crossroads will reopen Jan. 14, 2023.
  • East Village Dining Commons will reopen Jan. 16, 2023.
  • Brooks Great Hall will reopen Jan. 17, 2023.

Closed through Jan. 16, 2023:

  • Panda Express in the SUB
  • Which Wich, Moe’s Southwestern Grill and Starbucks in the Baylor Sciences Building
  • East Village Bakery
  • POD at Penland Crossroads
  • McMullen-Connally Faculty Center

Baylor Athletics

Baylor football and basketball will be competing during the break. Holiday Hoops at the Ferrell Center will feature men’s basketball vs. Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Dec. 20, with women’s basketball playing Long Beach State at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. Baylor football will play Air Force in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 22 in Fort Worth.

After Christmas, MBB plays Nicholls at 7 p.m. Dec. 28, with both Baylor MBB and WBB beginning conference play on Dec. 31. MBB will be open at Iowa State at 1 p.m. and WBB opening at home vs. TCU at 2 p.m. in the Ferrell Center. For tickets, visit the Baylor Athletics ticket website.
