Student Foundation will sponsor Bearathon, a 13.1 mile half-marathon, for Baylor University students, faculty and staff and members of the Waco community at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 5.
Started by two Student Foundation members three years ago, Bearathon is the organization's main fundraising event. According to Michael Middaugh, a senior Student Foundation member from Little Rock, "the money raised goes to scholarships for Baylor students, which are usually given in $1000 increments."
The race begins at 8 a.m. on Fifth Street by the Student Union Building on Baylor's campus and ends in the same location. There are currently 175 runners registered, and there are expected to be 200 participants.
Prizes will be given according to division. There is a student division, an 18-39 year old open division, and a 40 years plus open division. Each of the divisions is divided into male and female categories. First place in each category is awarded $300, second place wins $200, and third place wins $100.
Applications are still being accepted and can be picked up in the Student Foundation office in the basement of Roxy Grove. The cost to register is $45. For more information, contact the Student Foundation office at 710-3497.
