WACO, Texas (Feb. 21, 2020) — This coming week, Baylor University will host multiple guest speakers and performers from various disciplines, including arts and sciences, music, religion, history and entrepreneurship, along with various film screenings. The Department of Multicultural Affairs will host its annual Black Heritage Banquet in honor of Black History Month, and the Multicultural Women’s Symposium.

MONDAY, Feb. 24

Chapel Highlights – Bob Fu, founder and president of China Aid, will speak during Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

Campus Orchestra – The Baylor University School of Music will host the Campus Orchestra led by Michael Alexander, Ph.D., Baylor associate professor of string music education, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This event is free and open to the public. Digital Humanities Lectures – Kalani Craig, Ph.D., clinical assistant professor in the department of history at Indiana University Bloomington, will present a “Roundtable Discussion on Digital Humanities” at noon and a lecture on “The Role of Fear and Failure in Successful DH Research” at 3:30 p.m. Both events will be held in the Active Learning Lab (Moody 104) in Moody Memorial Library, 1312 S. Third St. The lectures are sponsored by the Baylor College of Arts & Sciences, Academy for Teaching and Learning and University Libraries. ISR Lecture – The Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion will host Dale Ahlquist, Ph.D., author, publisher and president of the Society of Gilbert Keith Chesterton, to speak on one of the most prolific writers of the 20th century, Gilbert Keith Chesterton. Movie Mondays at the Hippodrome – Movie Mondays presented by Baylor’s Union Board will continue this week with a showing of “America the Beautiful,” a film by award-winning director Darryl Roberts, who teams up with industry experts to explore the reality of over-sexualization of the youth and psychological effects it has. The screening will be at 7 p.m. in the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the Waco Hippodrome Box Office, the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket office or online.

Science and Christian Ministry Conference – Baylor University’s Truett Seminary will present the Science and Christian Ministry Conference, a two-day workshop featuring four national speakers who will address topics that pastors and churches encounter in their ministries. Black Heritage Banquet – The Baylor University Black Student Union in conjunction with the Department of Multicultural Affairs, will present the 33rd Annual Black Heritage Banquet featuring keynote speaker Steve Perry, Ph.D., educational speaker and daytime TV host, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 506 in the Cashion Academic Center, 1401 S. Distinguished Artist Series – Baylor’s Distinguished Artist Series will feature VOCES8, a British vocal ensemble that performs worldwide and has live broadcasts on international television and radio. Latin American Film Series – The Center for Global Engagement will present “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” a film in Spanish with English subtitles depicting a young actress’s encounter with eccentric characters on her journey to discover why her lover left her.
