Baylor Theatre Department To Present 'Quilters'

Baylor Theatre will present Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek's "Quilters," beginning at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 4-6. A matinee will run at 2 p.m. Oct. 31 and Nov. 7 in Jones Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center.
"Quilters," which was based on the book "The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art" by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen, tells of the heartache and troubled times of early pioneers through the eyes and voices of women. This inspiring play has been nominated for six Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The women's ensemble includes Haley Phillips, Ellie Jarrett, Katharine Everett, Kelsey Scott, Amanda Warren, Mary Laws, Misty Foster, Lauren Kelly, Marissa Marchioni and Ann Flynn. The men's ensemble consists of Jarod Eaton, Zach Kelty and Andrew Worley.
Steven Pounders, who directs the play, taught and directed for eight years at Abilene Christian University and has been a member of the Baylor faculty since 2002. Pounders received a bachelor of arts in theatre from Abilene Christian University and a master of fine arts in acting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Tickets are $10 for the general public and students receive a $2 discount with a student I.D. Tickets are available in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center box office. For more information, contact the department of theater arts at 710-1861.
