Local bands will compete for a $1,000 prize in the third annual Battle of the Bands at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Touchdown Alley in Floyd Casey Stadium before the nationally televised Baylor v. Missouri football game. Place2BU and the Kappa Delta sorority will co-sponsor the non-profit event.
The contest will feature bands comprised mostly of Baylor students that will perform for 30 minutes each. This year's list of bands includes Sun Salutation, Ninja Death Accessory, White Noise, Friend of Nick, Rothland and Crownover. Crownover is the only band returning from last year.
The bands will be judged by a panel of six judges, who will announce the winner during halftime of the football game. Judges for the event are Scott Wade, director of the department of student union; Jill Wade, events specialist; three Baylor professors; and one Baylor student. The first prize band will receive $1,000, second place will receive a $500 prize, and the third place band will receive $250. The event is free and open to the public.
Free hot dogs provided by HEB, and sodas from Dr Pepper will also be available. Battle of the Bands T-shirts will be sold for $10.
