WACO, Texas (Feb. 14, 2019) – This week, Baylor University will host movie screenings, concerts, the final performance of “Peter and the Starcatcher” and several lectures in a wide variety of academic disciplines. All University Sing will begin with performances throughout the weekend.

SUNDAY, Feb. 17

Peter and the Starcatcher - Baylor Theatre will present its last performance of “Peter and the Starcatcher” at 2 p.m. in the Jones Theatre in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. This award-winning show brings the origin of the story of Peter Pan to life. ISR Lecture - The Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion will host Bruce Hindmarsh, D.Phil., The James M. Houston Professor of Spiritual Theology and professor of the history of Christianity at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., for a lecture at 3:30 p.m. in Cox Lecture Hall of Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave. The lecture is free and is co-sponsored by the Brazos Fellows. Movie Mondays - Movie Mondays will continue at the Waco Hippodrome with a screening of “Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland,” presented by Baylor’s department of multicultural affairs and Black Student Coalition, at 7 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Free tickets can be picked up at the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket office or online.

TUESDAY, Feb. 19

Confessions of an Entrepreneur - The John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise in Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business will host Nancy Grayson, owner of Lula Jane’s, who will speak at the Confessions of an Entrepreneur lunchtime speaker series, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room 250 of the Paul L. OVPR Colloquium and Centennial Lecture - The Baylor School of Education will host bilingual education expert Maria Franquiz, Ph.D., deputy chief academic officer for faculty development and innovation and professor in the University of Utah College of Education, for the Centennial Lecture. Her lecture, “Illuminating the World through the Gift of Bilingualism,” will begin at 5 p.m. in Room 101 of Marrs McLean Science Building, 1214 S. Trombone Choir - James Nova, trombonist in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and adjunct professor of trombone at Duquesne University, will present a concert of his own film-score arrangements, “Baylor Trombones at the Movies,” at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Nova will perform with Brent Phillips, M.M., associate professor of trombone in the Baylor School of Music, and more than a dozen members from Phillip’s trombone studio and a percussionist. Religion Lecture - Baylor’s department of religion will feature Jonathan Tran, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophical theology and George W. Randall Bradley, D.M.A., The Ben H. Williams Professor of Music and director of the church music program in the Baylor School of Music, will conduct nearly 100 choir members.
