WACO, Texas (Oct. 18, 2019) – This week, Baylor University will host a variety of speakers in chemistry, biology, medical humanities and business, along with celebrating Cuban and Asian and Pacific heritage and a special performance from the United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants.

MONDAY, Oct. 22

Chapel Highlights - Joe White, president of Kanakuk Ministries, will speak during Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

Movie Mondays - Movie Mondays continue with the screening of “Abacus: Small Enough to Jail,” a film documenting the saga of the Chinese immigrant Sung family, owners of Abacus Federal Savings in Chinatown, New York, who were accused of mortgage fraud in the 2008 financial crisis. The screening will be at 7 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Free tickets can be picked up at the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket office or online.

Bill Leonard Lecture - Church history scholar Bill Leonard, Ph.D., Dunn Professor of Baptist Studies Emeritus at Wake Forest University School of Divinity, will present “Teaching Dissent: The Witness of Minority,” a lecture sponsored by the department of religion. TUESDAY, Oct. 23

World Cinema Series - The department of modern languages and cultures will continue its World Cinema Series with “Memorias del subdesarrollo (Memories of Underdevelopment).” The film is in Spanish and shown with English subtitles. Wind Ensemble - The Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 101 Baylor Ave. Donald Grantham, Ph.D., professor of composition at The University of Texas at Austin, will be the guest performer. Conference of the Cuban Culture - The conference of the Cuban Culture will present “Photography and Society of Cuba (1994-2018),” sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences department of modern languages and cultures and the Center for Global Engagement. The conference will begin at 5 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium in the Draper Academic Building, 1400 S. Cyber Day Hackfest - Hackfest is an interactive exhibit that will introduce novice and experts to the latest cybersecurity threats. United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants - The United States Air Force Concert Band, the premier symphonic wind ensemble of the United States Air Force, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The wind ensemble will be accompanied by the Singing Sergeants, the official chorus of the United States Air Force.
