Basketball Coaches to Speak During Chapel-Forum Nov. 19

November 18, 1997

Head Baylor University basketball coaches Sonja Hogg and Harry Miller will speak at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, during Chapel-Forum in Waco Hall.
Hogg has been the women's basketball head coach for the past three years. She led the Lady Bears to their first winning season in 13 years in 1996-97 with a 15-13 record. She now has 347 career wins.
Hogg began her coaching career by founding the women's basketball program at Louisiana Tech University. She led teams to the AIAW national title in 1981 and the NCAA championship in 1982. She coached five All-Americans, three academic All-Americans and two 1984 Olympians while at Tech.
Miller began his coaching career in 1974 at Edna Junior High School. He later coached for 14 years at Seguin High School before taking over as the head coach at Temple High School. At Temple, he rebuilt the program into a state power with back-to-back teams ranked among Texas' best. He has served as president of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, the largest basketball organization in the world.
Miller will be speaking about the team and its prospects for this season. In three years, Miller has rebuilt the basketball program and in the 1996-97 season, Miller led the Bears to their most successful season in nearly a decade. Baylor went 18-12 overall as a member of the Big XII Conference.
