WACO, Texas (April 5, 2018) — This week at Baylor University, renowned scholars, musicians and departments will offer lectures, concerts and events for the community to attend. The Baylor Fashion show also will take place this week, presenting the spring Senior Collections — the capstone work of senior design students.

MONDAY, April 9
Chapel Highlights — Dave and Licia Radford, otherwise known as The Gray Havens, will deliver a musical presentation during Chapel in Waco Hall, 698 Speight Ave., at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. For more information, visit the chapel website.

Campus Orchestra — The Baylor University Campus Orchestra will present its final concert of the academic year at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This ensemble, conducted by associate professor of string music education Michael Alexander, is composed of 39 talented Baylor students, whose majors range across the disciplines at Baylor. TUESDAY, April 10
Northcutt Lecture Featuring John Witvliet — John Witvliet, Ph.D., director of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and professor of worship, theology and congregational and ministry studies at Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary, will speak on music and Christian worship at Baylor’s Northcutt Lecture at 4 p.m. in the McLean Foyer of Meditation in Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave. For more information, call 710-3991 or visit the Center For Christian Music Studies website.

Concert Jazz Ensemble —The 18-member Concert Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. They are led by Alex Parker, senior lecturer in jazz studies and director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program at Baylor. WEDNESDAY, April 11
2018 Baylor Youth Entrepreneur Awards — High school-aged entrepreneurs from across the country are nominated and apply for this prestigious award program, now in its fourth year. Ten finalist youth entrepreneurs and their chaperones will come to campus for a final pitch competition and a day of tours and meetings with judges and entrepreneurship program graduate entrepreneurs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the President's Suite of McLane Stadium.

THURSDAY, April 12
OVPR Colloquium: "The Role of Rogue Thinkers in Human Progress" — Baylor University’s department of mathematics and the Office of the Vice Provost for Research will present a colloquium event featuring Jim Cantrell, CEO and Co-founder of Vector Launch, Inc., from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Baylor Sciences Building (BSB) Room D.110, 101 Bagby Ave. He will present "The Role of Rogue Thinkers in Human Progress." Science Thursdays at the Mayborn Museum Complex — Organized and sponsored by the department of physics at Baylor, Science Thursdays is a series of one-hour talks on various scientific topics. James Fulton, Ph.D., assistant professor of geosciences, will speak at 7 p.m. in Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive. He will discuss the search for potential disease markers and the instruments and methodologies being used to study molecular sizes and shapes. Guests may join the speaker for coffee and cookies before the lecture at 6:30 pm. Science Thursdays lectures are free and open to the public; however, admission to the museum is not included. Confessions of an Entrepreneur Lunch Speaker Series — Andie Day, owner of Mary Claret, will speak at 12:30 p.m. in Foster 143 and 144 of the Hankamer School of Business at 1621 S. Truett Seminary Presents: James Leo Garrett Day — James Leo Garrett, Ph.D., will visit George W. Truett Theological Seminary to provide a lecture on "Anabaptists, Global Missions, and Christian Unity" at 11 a.m. in Paul W. Powell Chapel, 1100 S. Tom Bratcher Memorial Lecture — The department of statistical science is pleased to host Raymond J. Carroll, Distinguished Professor in the department of statistics and faculty of nutrition at Texas A&M University, for a university-wide lecture on “The Complex Nature of Nutrient and Food Intake” from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 301 of Marrs McLean Science, 1214 S. Fourth St.

FRIDAY, April 13
Baylor Opera Theater presents Handel’s chamber opera Oreste — Baylor Opera Theater will present George Frideric Handel’s chamber opera Oreste at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall, 624 Speight Avenue. This rare work has only been performed once in America, at the Juilliard School, and Baylor’s production will be a Texas and regional premiere. The production will be conducted by the music director of the Baylor Opera Theater, Jeffrey Peterson, Ph.D., and will be directed by interim director of opera, Dashiell Waterbury. Baylor Theatre Presents: CaBEARet — Baylor Theatre will present CaBEARet at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Theatre in Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. Tickets are pay-what-you-can to benefit the Leta Horan and Jerry MacLauchlin Endowed Scholarship for Musical Theatre. Suggested donations are $10 for students and $20 for adults (cash, check and credit all accepted). No advance ticket sales. Box office opens at 6:30 p.m. for general admission seating.

The Baylor Fashion Show — Baylor University’s department of family and consumer sciences and apparel design & product development will present the Baylor Fashion Show at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center, 1311 S. Fifth St. The fashion show presents the spring Senior Collections — the capstone work of senior design students. Each collection includes multi-piece clothing collections ranging from streetwear to bridal. The show is open to the public and tickets can be purchased through Baylor Student Activities website.

Nineteenth-Century Research Seminar: Dr. Tracy Hoffman — Tracy Hoffman, Ph.D., senior lecturer in English, will give a talk on Washington Irving from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Cox Lecture Hall in Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave.

CASPER Seminar: Dr. Razieyeh Yousefi — Baylor University and the Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics and Engineering Research (CASPER) will present a lecture by Razie Yousefi, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas Medical Branch, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Baylor Sciences Building (BSB) Room E.125, 101 Bagby Ave. He will present “What Can We Learn from Computer Simulations of DNA Replication?” For more information, visit the CASPER website.
