WACO, Texas (Dec. 13, 2017) – Baylor University and Waco’s KWBU 103.3FM, Heart of Texas Public Radio, will debut a new weekly radio program, “Baylor Connections,” beginning in January.

The 30-minute interview program will air at 11 a.m. Fridays and will introduce the Waco community to the people behind Baylor’s teaching, research and distinct role in higher education, while also providing additional information and context to issues facing the University and higher education.

The inaugural episode of “Baylor Connections” will air on Friday, Jan. 5, featuring Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., who will discuss her first months on the job, Baylor’s academic strategic plan and her vision for the University moving forward. Livingstone will be a monthly guest on “Baylor Connections.”

“There are so many great stories across Baylor that are not being told. ‘Connections’ will not only introduce listeners to these stories, but the long interview format will provide additional commentary and context that you simply cannot get in a 30-second soundbite,” said Jason D. Cook, vice president for marketing and communications and chief marketing officer at Baylor. “We are appreciative of KWBU for this new opportunity as we reach out across Central Texas and beyond through traditional radio and other media technology.”

In addition to the live radio broadcast each Friday, “Baylor Connections” will be available online at baylor.edu/connections or via podcast.

“Baylor Connections” is hosted by Derek Smith, the well-known public address voice at McLane Stadium and Ferrell Center and radio play-by-play broadcaster for Baylor baseball. Smith is a senior marketing communications specialist at Baylor, where he writes for Baylor Magazine, Baylor Proud and Baylor Family News. He served as news and public affairs director at KWBU from 2006-2011.

Guests on “Baylor Connections” will represent the University’s 12 colleges and schools as well as other areas, including student life, community involvement and athletics.

January’s guests are:

  • Jan. 5: Inaugural episode with President Linda A. Livingstone

  • Jan. 26: Lilly Ettinger, recovery program coordinator in Baylor’s Beauchamp Addiction Recovery Center, which provides on-campus recovery support services as well as programming to strengthen prevention education and intervention support
