WACO, Texas (Oct. 27, 2017) – Before kickoff of Saturday’s Baylor-Texas football game, the traditional running of the Baylor Line will be particularly special as more than 800 women – who were freshmen at Baylor from 1970 to 1994 – will experience for the first time running onto the field as part of the Baylor Line.

All women participating in the ceremonial running have their own Baylor Line jerseys with their class years and nicknames, just as today’s first-year students do.

When the women were freshmen, the Baylor Line – which was founded in 1970 – was a spirit organization for first-year men, who formed a human tunnel on the field at Floyd Casey Stadium to welcome the football team. In 1971, the Baylor Sideline was created as a parallel organization for women, but they did not run on the field. The Baylor Line became a co-ed organization in 1994.

The alumnae will gather at the south end of McLane Stadium and, led by the cheers of alumni and fans, will join the Baylor Line and run onto the field and welcome the Baylor Bears to the field.

“It’s exciting to see the tremendous response we have had to the call to run the Baylor Line,” said Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone. “It really illustrates how excited our alumni are, particularly our women alumni, to come back and be able to participate in this fabulous tradition at Baylor, which is really one of the most unique traditions among universities in the country. I’m excited to welcome back all of the women who are joining us to run the ceremonial Baylor Line, and we hope they have a joyous celebration.”
