September 12, 1997

WACO, Texas - Time Warner CableVision will sponsor the first CableVision/Baylor 500 mini Grand Prix car race at the Ferrell Center on the Baylor University campus Sept. 12-13. Qualifying times begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday and the semifinals are set for 1 p.m. Saturday. The championship race, consisting of 36 laps, is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
USA/M- Car Racing, which runs more than 70 mini Indy car races nationwide, will bring the excitement of road-course style racing for car owners. Several local companies bought the mini race cars and have sponsored their own racing team for the CableVision/Baylor 500 race.
The race teams will compete for trophies and medals with other prizes for the best paint job and best dressed pit crew.
The event is free to the public and will offer a variety of activities for the entire family. Many Waco car clubs will have 60 classic cars on display, along with Cartoon Network's Official NASCAR Winston Cup car. Kids' attractions will include Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.
The race will be similar to real Indy car racing with one mandatory pit stop for a driver change and a tire change is required.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Baylor University athletic scholarship program.
