President Livingstone to Speak at Summer 2017 Baylor Commencement

WACO, Texas (July 27, 2017) – Linda A. Livingstone, Ph.D., will address Baylor University graduates for the first time as University president during summer commencement ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 12. The ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Ferrell Center, 1900 S. University Parks Drive.

Baylor University Commencement

An estimated 450 students, about 40 of whom will receive doctoral degrees, will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas.

Michael K. McLendon, Ph.D., will preside over the conferral of degrees in his first commencement ceremony as Baylor’s interim provost.

Edgar Sierra, who is graduating with a master’s degree in performance studies, will sing a solo.

The Bearer of the Mace is Dr. Daniel E. Scott, a retired associate professor who taught in Baylor’s School of Music for 40 years.

Additional Commencement Ceremonies

The ceremony for graduates of Baylor Law School will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at First Baptist Church, located at 500 Webster Ave.

Commencement for seminary graduates will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in Paul W. Powell Chapel in Truett Seminary, located at 1100 S. Third St.

Parking

The Ferrell Center parking lot is accessible from both University Parks Drive and LaSalle Avenue. A circular drive located at the main entrance to Ferrell Center is available to drop off guests.

Parking for handicapped individuals is accessible from the Daughtrey Street entrance off University Parks Drive. Those with handicapped or elderly guests should ask a parking attendant for curbside drop-off before parking.

Seating

Tickets are not required for the summer commencement ceremony. However, each graduating student is asked to bring no more than 10 guests.

Seating for Commencement is first come, first served. The doors of the Ferrell Center will open at 8 a.m., and guests will have their bags checked before entering.

Wheelchair seating is available inside the arena with rows in front of the area for family members.

Streaming and Photography

Baylor will provide live streaming of commencement ceremonies from the commencement website.

Cameras and other photo/video items will be allowed for the commencement exercise, but guests will not be allowed on the floor where the graduates are seated. The lower rows in section 104 are reserved for guests to come and go during the ceremony and photograph their graduates.
