“Population health is the study of health determinants and/or health outcomes of populations defined in numerous ways and either local or global,” said Lori Baker, Ph.D., vice provost for strategic initiatives, collaboration and leadership development and associate professor of anthropology in the College of Arts & Sciences. “It is at the intersection of medicine and public health that spans the basic and social sciences enabling transdisciplinary research.”

The Population Health Symposium will highlight scholars, physicians, researchers and experts from various universities, governmental bodies and organizations.

“By bringing together researchers and leaders from Baylor University, Baylor Scott & White, Baylor College of Medicine, the U.S. Department of State and organizations such as Prosper Waco and the Waco Family Health Center, we hope to connect people and initiatives in ways that may produce innovative approaches to the current challenges in health,” Baker said.

Joel Allison, former CEO of Baylor Scott & White, will deliver the keynote address, “Defining Population Health,” at 9:15 a.m. in the Barfield Drawing Room in Bill Daniel Student Center.

One of the experts participating in the symposium will be Jessica Petrillo, Ph.D., senior health security officer in the Office of International Health and Biodefense at the U.S. Department of State.
